Blue Cities & Castles Made Of Sand: My ULTIMATE Adventure Elopement Guide To Morocco

My Journal

Is Morocco a good place to elope? That was the question I set out to answer when putting together this guide. The very short answer is yes, but short answers don’t really cut it with this dreamy location. I wasn’t even sure I could fit everything I love about this country into just one adventure elopement guide to Morocco – there are SO MANY reasons to get married here.

Beaches. Surf. Desert dunes. Camel rides. Palm trees. Snow-capped mountains. Lush valleys. Ancient ruins. Color. Culture. ADVENTURE!

Modern-day Morocco teems with influences from the many cultures that have called its lands home over the centuries. The architecture of the Berbers, Phoenicians, Moors, and Romans that permeate the visual landscape of Morocco are a living testament to the concept of a melting-pot society. The colors kaleidoscope around you as you make your way through the towns, mingling with locals in amazing traditional garb. And the food is some of the best and most diverse you will find in the Mediterranean – fragrant spices intermingle in the breeze with the sweet smell of the Valley of the Roses.

Can you picture it? Perfect. Envisioning it is the first step. The next is figuring out how to make it happen. Which is why I’m here – to make your Morroco elopement photography dreams come true! While this guide is definitely a great start, there is nothing better than having someone by your side to help you figure out the best places and spaces. If you’re ready? I’m ready. Just reach out to me and we can get started.

The Best Times And Places To Elope In Morocco

The weather is as varied as the cultural influence. While the Atlas Mountains are often seen with snow year-round, inland areas can reach over 100 degrees in the summer. Needless to say, timing is everything.

One of the more popular blocks of time to elope in Morocco is early April to late May. The freshness of spring is still in the air, and those blazing summer days haven’t quite arrived. The not-too-hot weather mixed with the cool winds off the Atlantic make for a perfect setting for both indoor or outdoor weddings.

If spring isn’t your cup of tea, the next best time to have an adventure elopement in Morocco would be the beginning of the fall. Early September to mid-October is best, but if you’re okay with an indoor wedding, then the cool months are perfect for you. Just a heads-up, though – the rainiest part of the season is around late October to mid-November, so plan for that ahead of time.

OK – we’ve figured out the right time, now we need the right place. Let’s look at some of the most picturesque places in Morocco for your elopement photo shoot.

By Land Or By Sea: The Right Topography For Your Morocco Elopement Photography

By Land

The Atlas Mountains

A natural backdrop that most could only dream of, the Atlas Mountains, located about 90 minutes from Marrakech, is one of the most visually stunning places you can find in Morocco. With the weather, though, timing is everything. If you’re looking to make the mountains your destination, the best times to visit are between April and October, but aiming for late May to mid-June will be best to avoid rain and overly hot weather.

The Blue City

The Blue City of Morocco, Chaouen, is like a painting come to life. Nestled in the Rif Mountains, the city is known for its amazing medina (market), gorgeous hikes through the mountains, and day visits to the Cascades d’Akchour.

But it’s the color and life of the city itself that makes it one of the most Instagrammable places in Morocco. If you appreciate bold hues, bright backdrops, and the color blue(!), this could be the place for you.

By Sea

The Town (and Beaches) of Asilah

The beach town of Asilah is a wonderland, especially if you love beautiful coastal views, ancient architecture, and a funky, boho sort of vibe. Homes and businesses are painted with murals and imagery, doorways are adorned with sea glass, and if you happen to make your trip between June and July, you’ll be in for an extra treat: the Cultural Moussem of Asilah is a yearly arts festival where the walls of the town are covered in art from top to bottom.

From Asilah, you can also make your way to Paradise Beach. A small slice of land with amazing, panoramic views, it’s not nearly as touristy as some of the other beaches in Morocco, giving us the chance to catch that perfect golden hour moment without any interference.

The Gardens of Kasbah Tamadot

The Gardens of Kasbah Tamadot is the best of both worlds. The outdoor space is teeming with flora and fauna, and there’s an amazing luxury hotel and spa that makes for a stunning indoor venue. The Kasbah Tamadot Hotel was named the #1 Resort Hotel in Africa/the Middle East in 2021, and when you peruse their online offerings, you can see why.
