Choosing a Date for Your Chico Wedding

The first thing you’ll need to do when you get married in Chico is think about wedding dates! If you’re flexible, it may be easier to find a venue - but thinking of a timeframe for your wedding will be helpful in narrowing down dates. Here’s what you need to know about the best times to get married in Chico!

Chico is located in Northern California, about halfway between Redding and Sacramento. This means that we don’t have the year-round sunshine and palm trees of SoCal, and the weather does change a bit throughout the year. Here’s a graph of the weather averages in Chico California:

The most popular time to tie the knot in Chico is fall – September and October are peak dates for weddings. The weather is a little bit more mild, cooling down from the blistering heat of summer. Fall and spring offer the best weather, so most couples opt to get married on those dates.

However, during the day, winter temperatures aren’t too cold, hovering in the mid 50s. This means that while you and your guests will definitely need some layers to put on if you have an outdoor reception, winter can be a great time for a wedding in Chico if you want cooler weather (and a potential discount at your venue for choosing off-season dates).

Choose From The Best Wedding Venues in Chico, CA

As a wedding photographer based in Chico, I’ve worked at some of the premier venues in the area. I’ve got the inside scoop on the best places to tie the knot, so if you’re looking for the perfect spot to host your party, here are some of the best wedding venues in Chico, CA.

The Barn at Pheasant Trail Ranch

This is one of the newest wedding venues in Chico, CA, but couples are already flocking to tie the knot here! The gorgeous venue features a white washed post and beam barn, renovated to capture its history while adding some modern elegance. Barns have been really popular with couples in recent years, and it’s easy to see why – they’re cozy and rustic, and The Barn at Pheasant Trail Ranch has all the amenities you need for a perfect day.

The Palms Chico

The Palms is one of the most unique wedding venues in Chico, CA. While many venues in the area are more rustic, this one gives couples a taste of tropical paradise. With palm lined paths and a gazebo, the entire space is modern, and truly one of a kind! Modern touches like neon lights, a wall that holds ice cream cones, and clear chairs for your guests make this a great venue for those who like artsy, boho vibes.

Iron Gate Garden Inn

For a stunning outdoor wedding venue, check out the Irongate Garden Inn! This venue features gorgeous outdoor spaces with tree groves, lots of greenery, and the perfect outdoor space for any wedding. Indoor options are available for couples who want them (and in case the weather doesn’t cooperate), and the elegant feeling of this nature-inspired venue creates a truly timeless wedding day!

White Ranch

White Ranch is best known for the stunning weeping willow tree that stands behind couples as they exchange vows. There are a few options for ceremonies at White Ranch, including a quaint tree grove for smaller gatherings! There’s also an old wooden barn for photos, and the entire ranch is the perfect combination of rustic country style and modern elegance.

Patrick’s Ranch

Patrick’s Ranch is a museum dedicated to preserving the history of the Sacramento Valley, but it’s also one of the best wedding venues in Chico, CA! At Patrick’s Ranch, you’ll find 28 picturesque acres, featuring the Glenwood Farmhouse, which looks like an elegant country estate, situated on the  sprawling lawn and surrounded by perfectly manicured gardens and surrounded by trees. This venue has giant redwoods and towering oak trees, unique vintage elements that make your wedding day one of a kind, and tons of space outdoors on the lawn or inside the barn for your ceremony and reception.

Almendra Winery & Distillery

This venue is a bonus in this Chico wedding guide, because it’s actually located in Durham, but it’s just a 10 minute drive from Chico! The Almendra Winery & Distillery is warm and inviting, with a unique Spanish-style exterior and a rustic interior decorated with wine barrels, warm wood accents, cozy string lights, and elegant chandeliers. And of course, they have an amazing wine selection for your wedding! Interior decorated with wine barrels, reclaimed wood accents, cozy string lights and elegant chandeliers. Book Your Chico Wedding Photographer

After you’ve chosen the perfect venue, it’s time to find a Chico wedding photographer.

You want a photographer who will flow with you, not against you, and I’m here to be by your side as you embark on this new adventure together. I won’t be forcing you into awkward poses or yelling at your guests to stand a certain way, because that’s not what your wedding day should be about. You should be able to relax and enjoy the day you get married, celebrating how far you’ve come and how far you have to go!

And when you get the photos back, they’ll capture the feeling – how it felt to exchange vows with your best friend, how it felt to be surrounded by the people you love most, and how ready you are to start this next chapter.

My job is to make sure that you can relax on the day you get married, and most importantly to deliver photos that will give you butterflies forever. If you’re ready to plan your wedding in Chico, contact me!
